Thank you very much BE for the £200 bursary from the Market Research Project 2014.
I sold my first two items on eBay. I didn’t make much money from these two, but at least it is a start to my journey to the Amazon. I also put up more items on eBay, such as the sailing kit I had when I was 12, and will continue to put more items online for some time to come.
Today I registered for eBay and PayPal. I also started packaging up items ready for dispatching.
Parents started decluttering the house, and I emptied my old toy boxes. We organized old unneeded belongings into boxes for selling on eBay and at a car boot sale. There is quite a lot of accumulated stuff, so it is taking a long time to sort through (we’re a family of hoarders!) – even the shed is being emptied. However, the loft will have to wait for another occasion.
I have started to get some ideas together for the fundraising: as well as writing letters to try to obtain grants and sponsorship I will try to organise some car boot sales, selling on eBay, getting a job, creating some artwork to sell, and maybe even make some Swedish cakes, which always seemed to prove popular at school fundraising events. This won’t be nearly enough, but hopefully more inspiration will come later.
Today I also started the leaflet about myself that I plan to put into the letters I write to try and gain sponsorship. First payment made to British Exploring – the £500 deposit, a combination of 18th birthday present money and savings. I am starting to think about how I can raise the remaining money: £3,000 + flights + kit + cost of vaccinations. £2,000 of this needs to be raised by the end of the year! Very daunting.
Following an online application and a telephone interview, I heard that I had been offered a place on the 5 week expedition to the Peruvian Amazon in 2015. Whilst we celebrated in the garden, President Obama flew overhead from Fairford, on his way back to Washington after the NATO Summit in Wales. It was a very surreal evening.
